Each volume in Animal Marvels is filled with colorful, true-to-life illustrations, a wealth of valuable information, and startling facts about all types of animals. Each title also includes information-packed tables that are indispensable files to help young readers learn about and understand each species. A glossary, comprehensive index, and a detailed, full-color map of the world indicating where each species can be found complement the text.Sharks that eat their brothers and sisters while still inside their mother's womb! Milk-producing pigeons! The love songs of male whales and the dances they perform in time to their own music! Fish that change sex in order to fill in for their departed partners! Here's how these animals keep the world full of themselves!

Grade 2-4-Basic information is provided in these titles by discussing animals in a variety of environments. In chapter spreads, Reproducing discusses parental sacrifices for the survival of their young, different means of sexual and asexual reproduction, finding and attracting a mate, various fertilization processes, different ways of giving birth, and parenting behavior. "More fun facts" includes the names of male, female, and offspring, as well as gestation periods and annual egg production, when applicable. Surviving includes adaptation, finding water, harsh weather conditions, pollution perils, endangered species, and extinct animals. With the slightest of introductions to each subject, four brief examples are followed by a fact to promote interest entitled "Are you curious?" A simple world map shows where the animals live, organized by the page numbers where they appeared in the text. "More fun facts" provides the slightest of additional information divided between living and extinct animals. In both books, 12 minutely printed animal fact boxes precede a glossary and index. The colorful photography and drawings beautifully frame and hold the texts together, but the content and value of the materials as a whole are very slight, indeed.
