Grade 2-4-Topical spreads containing one page of text facing a full-color photo examine a different aspect of these creatures' lives. A bold heading indicates the page's subject (e.g., "Jackal Juniors" discusses how jackals raise their young). Most of the basic facts are included in the short texts, but the information is not in-depth. Difficult terms are in bold and defined in the glossary, which makes these books suitable for independent readers. The eye-catching illustrations increase the overall appeal. Annotated lists of relevant Web sites that offer search suggestions and the addresses of a few zoos and museums are included. The small size of these books and the large number of photos make them reader-friendly and they should find a ready audience among browsers and children writing brief reports. Serviceable additions.
