Martin, a library administrator with a background in accounting, approaches library budgeting in terms of the collection?a seldom-taken view and one that ought to be studied regularly. His emphasis here is on academic settings, with some examples for large public libraries also given. Martin takes the reader through the steps of gathering information for the budget, preparing a request, traditional vs. other budget scenarios, budget allocations, adjustments, end-of-year closings, and numerous examples of budgets. Martin presents many helpful ideas, but they may interfere with the reality of your institution and its budgeting process. If your academic setting has a budgeting process that allows for full involvement on the part of the library, this book would be a useful addition to the collection.?Marie Bruni, Huntington Memorial Lib., Oneonta, N.Y.
