Reviews

Divided into three parts, this collection of essays by 16 contributors covers types of challenging patrons (the homeless, the mentally ill, the disabled, latchkey children, young adults, senior citizens), the issues regarding them, and solutions to the problems they present. The articles also discuss problem patrons in academic settings, the sexual harassment of library staff by patrons, and other problems caused by patrons' sexual behavior. However, the solutions proposed are not discussed in depth or in some cases are not addressed at all. In addition, the essays' writing styles and subject matter vary widely, resulting in a book not as focused as Anne Turner's It Comes with the Territory: Handling Problem Situations in Libraries (Professional Reading, LJ 7/93). Administrators and staff in medium and large libraries can benefit from this book, using it in tandem with Turner's. An optional purchase.?Marie Bruni, Huntington Memorial Lib., Oneonta, N.Y.
