Reviews

Libraries have always been an information commons—the place where people gathered information, read, wrote, learned together and singly, and reflected upon ideas. Now the possibilities are both wider and more powerful. Bailey and Tierney outline the steps in planning, implementing, and assessing an information commons and describe the processes developed, and the lessons learned, in 20 academic libraries of assorted sizes. Most of these case studies discuss the physical plans while stating or implying that enculturating the campus to the idea of an information commons is the most important step. All academic libraries should develop the information commons mind-set. This book will help. --Linda Loos Scarth
