An annotated bibliography lists reference sources for those academic and public libraries that can't buy everything but want the best for their patrons

The sixth edition of this valuable resource was put together by a committee of nine librarians as a source of reference titles appropriate for any public or academic library. The new volume boasts many improvements: the inclusion of Dewey and LC numbers for every entry, expanded coverage of hobbies, sports, and music, and the elimination of children's reference books. The annotations are thorough and concise; slightly longer and more evaluative entries are included for works that are highly recommended or offer unique features. The lack of a subject index is surmounted by the arrangement of chapters by Dewey classification. Symbols to indicate those books most highly recommended or those designated as "first purchase" would be a welcome addition to future editions, as would expanded coverage of psychology reference. Academic and public librarians will find this book indispensable.AJennifer Haven, Amesbury P.L., MA
