Reviews

Authored by the supervisor of cataloging at McGill University Library, this work provides an overview of the RDA (Resource Description and Access) standard intended to replace AACR2 and designed specifically for a digital environment. Rather than being a how-to-use-it handbook, the book is an introduction, presenting chapters that define RDA and discuss its alignment with international standards, its relationship to FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) and FRAD (Functional Requirements for Authority Data), its similarities with and differences from AACR2, its implementation, and its advantages. This is a technical book that assumes a basic understanding of cataloging theory and practice, and it is intended for anyone who wants to know more about the new RDA standards. A list of abbreviations that are used throughout the work, as well as an index and list of selected resources and readings by topic, are included. --Sara Marcus
