This book is the first volume in a two-volume compilation on controlled/living radical polymerization. It combines all important aspects of controlled radical polymerization: from synthetic procedures, to rational selection of reaction components, to understanding of the reaction mechanisms, to materials and applications.
This book is focused on recent progress in the rapidly developing field of controlled/living radical polymerization. It is a sequel to ACS Symposium Series 685, 768, 854, 944, 1023, and 1024. Volume 1100 deals with the mechanistic aspects of controlled radical polymerization and describes the recent advances in the most important techniques, whereas Volume 1101 contains chapters on new materials prepared by controlled radical polymerization as well as applications of these materials.

Krzysztof Matyjaszewski is J.C. Warner Professor of Natural Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA. His research focus is on macromolecular engineering via controlled/living polymerization techniques. He published 15 books, over 70 book chapters, 700 peer-reviewed publications and holds 40 US patents.
Brent S. Sumerlin is the Harold Jeskey Trustee Associate Professor of Chemistry at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. His research is focused on responsive and water-soluble polymers, controlled polymerization techniques, and the applications of well-defined polymers in drug delivery and self-healing materials. He has published approximately 70 peer-reviewed publications and currently serves on the editorial boards of many of the top polymer journals
Nicolay V. Tsarevsky is Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. His research interests include polymerization techniques, catalysis, functional materials, particularly for drug delivery applications, and the chemistry of hypervalent iodine compounds. He has published over 65 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, a textbook, and is co-inventor on several patents.
