About the Author

Walter Murray Chiesa nacio en Bayamon el 21 de junio 1923. Despues de hacer sus estudios primarios y secundarios en su ciudad natal, ingresa en la Facultad de Educacion de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, donde se formo como maestro. Murray Chiesa colaboro estrechamente con Ricardo Alegria en el Instituto de Cultura Puertorriquena, donde dirigio el programa de Artesania y Artes Populares. A partir de entonces , ha dedicado su vida a la documentación, conservación y promocion de las artesanias tradicionales puertorriquenas, labor que le ha valido el reconocimiento y respeto de los artesanos de todo Puerto Rico al igual que de instituciones como National Endowment for the Arts, quien lo distinguio en el ano 2008 con el National Heritage Fellowship.

El autor, quien fue director del Centro Ceremonial Indigena de Caguana, tambien se ha ocupado de documentar la historia y cultura taina, pasion que ha dado paso, entre muchos otros frutos, a los magicos relatos que presentamos en los cuentos de un mundo perdido.

Walter Murray Chiesa was born in Bayamon on 21 June 1923. After doing their primary and secondary education in his hometown, he entered the Faculty of Education at the University of Puerto Rico, where he trained as a teacher. Murray Chiesa works closely with Ricardo Alegria on the Puerto Rican Instituto de Cultura, where he directed the program of Artisanal and Popular Art. Since then he has dedicated his life to the documentation, preservation and promotion of traditional artisans in Puerto Rico, work that has earned him recognition and respect for artisans of all Puerto Rico as well as institutions like the National Endowment for the Arts, who honored him in 2008 with the National Heritage Fellowship.

The author, who was director of the Centro Ceremonial Indigena de Caguana, also has been involved in documenting the history and culture of the Tainos, passion that has led among many other fruits, to the magical stories that are present in Los Cuentos De Un Mundo Perdido (tales of a lost world).
