However, it was not swollowed-up in the industrial era of the 19th century and thus retained its traditional character, which made its attractive for generations of photographers. It is through their work that the co-autors were able to compile this evocative visual record of "Bygone Alton," covereing the people, buildings, pursuits and industries. First edition of 1995, unpaginated by more that 120 pages featuring 180 b/w illustrations, mainly photos with some art, plans etc, e/paper maps, Text limited to an introductory brief history with extended captions for the illustrations.
