Sub-titled "A definitive illustrated history" this extremely detailed book on the famous Porsche marque was first published in Germany in 1977, with the first English translation following in 1978, reprinted in 1980, 1981, twice in 1982, then this second edition of 1983. The translator was Paul Frere, a works driver for Porsche who drove for them in the 1954 La Mans 24-hour race and was closely associated with the company and its cars and wrote books on Porsche racing cars of the 1970s and the 911 model. The co-authors were also closely involved in Porsche production and racing activities. Their book opens with a brief history of the company and then lists 22 production car models from 1938 to 1981, followed by a list of production sports cars and another containing an impressive number of racing car type and projects. The book is lavishly illustrated with b/w photos, numerous technical drawing and diagrams, with lists and tables providing a mass of technical, mechanical, production and competition information in addition to the extended text material. Second edition of 1983, 584 pages, illustrated throughout with b/w photos, technical plans and drawings. Black hard covers are VG+ with gilt spine titles and Porsche emblem to front, internally excellent, no inscriptions. Wrap- round colour DJ showing three Porsche models in profile and one head on, is price clipped but otherwise VG+. This heavy book, more than 1.4kgs unpacked, would require additional postage.
