This book of music facts devotes six pages to each year from 1954 to 1986, listing major events of the year as well as weekly listings of number-one singles in both Britain and the U.S. For example, in the 1975 section is the notation that "Apple Records was dissolved" (May 10), and a week later "Mick Jagger cut his hand badly after putting it through a window in a Long Island restaurant." That same week Tammy Wynette's "Stand By Your Man" topped the U.K. charts. Other sections feature short summaries of trends from year to year, alphabetical listings of number-one singles and coverage of the "pre-rock era"from 1877 to 1953. An extremely comprehensive index of 4000 entries makes this encyclopedic chronology a must for rock buffs.
