Synopsis
A classical circus equitation book, a unique work on the art of training horses for the circus and other and other venues: at Liberty, Classic and Circus High School riding, Mounted quadrilles, carrousels and other equestrian maneuvers, trick-riding and voltige. First published in Dutch in 1949. The author, H.J. Lijsen dedicated his life to the training of every type of circus horse. His experience is described in great clarity, and emphasis on the ethical treatment of the horse. The book is in English, full of historic photographs and drawings. The book is both a practical manual and a celebration of the circus. It will be of interest to anyone involved with performing horses, dressage, riding club quadrilles or vaulting societies. Equestrian vaulting, or simply vaulting, is most often described as gymnastics and dance on horseback, which can be practiced both competitively or non-competitively. Vaulting has a history as an equestrian act at circuses, but its origins stretch back at least two-thousand years.
