The story takes place in what feels like a timeless, fairy-tale era of Europe, along the misty edges of Norwegian fjords, in ancient game-filled forests. As seems to be the case with the usual Hamsun hero, Lieutenant Thomas Glahn is a rather alienated guy, almost childlike in his innocence of the interpersonal politics between people in general, men and women in particular, and between him and Edvarda, the woman he falls in love with, most particularly.
About the Author:
Knut Hamsun (1859-1952) was a Norwegian novelist, poet, and playwright. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1920. He is the author of books including Hunger and Mysteries.
