Gordon Wilson joined the Durham Constabulary in 1966. He transferred to Derbyshire Constabulary Traffic Department on promotion to inspector in 1978. Whilst in that post he wrote the first edition of the Traffic Officer's Companion in 1979. This was followed by the Beat Officer's Companion the next year. In 1984 promoted to Superintendent on transfer to Warwickshire Constabulary. Now retired Gordon Wilson is fully employed editing, up-dating and improving the content of both books
