Gr. 5-8. Librarians may recognize this title and the series (The Human Body) from which it comes: a book by the same name, by Parker, was published by Watts in 1990. But Raintree/Steck-Vaughn has billed this as completely new, one of six titles in a new Human Body series. Parker has, indeed, rewritten and reorganized the text, and the illustrations have been completely changed. Although Parker's language is a bit more scientific than it was in the earlier book, his approach and his coverage are generally the same, with each double-page spread tackling a particular subject--from brain waves to the main parts of the brain to sleep to memory. It's the artwork that really stands out. The well-captioned anatomical drawings are an excellent feature. Three other series titles, including two by Carol Ballard, are listed in the Series Roundup.
