Synopsis

Warren Bonython, an Australian conservationist, explorer, and bushwalker, has written about his adventures in walking the Flinders Ranges, the largest mountain range in South Australia which stretches over 265 miles. It is a harsh place of jagged ridges and cliffs of burnt orange and fiery red. Bonython is credited with the conception of the Heysen Trail, which runs 750 miles in length. Boynton was the first to walk the 1000 km from end to end of the range. He broke it into ten stages in 1967-68 (74 days in all) accompanied by various companions. They had to carry their own water as the country had been affected by drought. In part a diary, it is beautifully written with enthusiasm for the trip and the stunning scenery.
