Book has some light edge wear and some scattered spots on a few pages DJ has color fading to spine and gutter areas and some light edge wear. Illustrated with b & w photos and drawings, samples of handwriting and two maps. Includes footnotes, bibliography, chronology of expedition and index. Much of the book is based on Gilbert's diary. A portrayal of Leichhardt as a neurotic, self-centered dreamer who nevertheless remains a distinctive, romantic and important historical figure. Much new material has been interpolated and there is a summary of the numerous attempts which have been made to solve the riddle of Leichhardt's disappearance - a mystery of inexhaustible fascination.
