Synopsis
Tourism is of vital importance to the economies of many European countries in terms of both receipts and employment. With the advent of the single European market, further opportunities and threats have arisen for the tourism industries of both European Community (EC) and non-EC countries. This book provides a general overview of tourism in Europe today. The first part of the book considers particular developments in a thematic way, while the second part consists of twelve chapters devoted to individual countries or regions including a chapter of Eastern Europe. Most of these chapters are written by authors working in the countries concerned. The book is a suitable text for student taking advanced level courses in tourism, but will also be of value to those studying European economics or geography.
