Grade 7 Up-- Although this British import is illustrated with a number of black-and-white photographs, reproductions, and maps; covers a topic of interest (the origins of World War II and the U. S.' entry into it); and presents a selection of quotes from primary historical sources, it is unlikely that it will hold the interest of readers who are not doing reports. The photographs are overly familiar and the quotations are primarily dull, dry excerpts taken from government documents, speeches, and diaries linked together with equally deadly, Briticism-sprinkled, explanatory passages. Furthermore, Harris' inclusion of pedantic review questions and "Things to do and think about" detracts from any readability that the book might have.
