This marvelous paraphrase and arrangement of the biblical Psalms into a four-week cycle of morning, midday, and evening prayer is an excellent resource for those who want feminine imagery for God and suggestions about the contemporary relevance of various Psalms. Rienstra's paraphrases are inclusive and universalize the meaning of the Psalms, freeing them from excessive nationalistic references. She develops brief but complete offices or devotions around the Psalms, including prayers from a variety of Christian traditions, suggestions for spontaneous prayer, hymns, and coordinated Scripture readings, supplemented by an appendix of selections from four classic female theologians and mystics. This book would provide a basis for individual or small-group prayer, as well as a resource for raising women's issues. Recommended for public libraries.
