Synopsis
In the latter part of the eighteenth century, the town of Laurencekirk in Scotland became famous for the manufacture of the unique "hidden hinge" wooden snuff box. By the nineteenth century, these cleverly made articles were being produced in several Scottish towns, including Mauchline. As snuff-taking declined, these manufacturers began to offer other labor-intensive wooden objects, now know collectively as Mauchline ware. This book covers the wide range of Mauchline ware and deals with specific types, such as transfer ware and tartan ware. Illustrated throughout with b&w photos.
