About the Author

Hugh Muir is diary editor and a columnist on the Guardian. He has also worked at the the BBC, the Daily Telegraph, the Evening Standard, and Mail on Sunday. Shami Chakrabarti has been director of Liberty since September 2003. A barrister by background, she worked at the home office for five years, before joining Liberty as in-house counsel in 2001. She is chancellor of Oxford Brookes University and a governor of the London School of Economics and the British Film Institute.
