Soft cover. Condition: Good. 2nd Edition. New, revised and enlarged edition published in 1978. (First edition of 1952 was part of the mining industry's contribution to the Festival of Britain). This book's introduction suggests that songs such as The Collier Lass, Brave Collier Lads, The Durham Lock-out etc may show 'the mettle of a community clearer than a shelf of history books.' Some of the songs and ballads are accompanied by musical scores. Front cover drawing by Henry Moore. Condition - generally very sound externally and internally. The card covers have a little edgewear and there are crease lines along the book's spine. Very tight binding - hence restricted images. Hints of tanning on some of the pages; ffep has an ink signature - dated Jan 1981. pp. 384/8vo.
