Synopsis
Many useful lathe accessories are now available on the market, and where financial resources allow, most users will prefer to purchase them rather than take the trouble and time to make them; but there are many jobs where a simple home-made accessory will serve just as well as an elaborate and expensive one. Some of the appliances described in this book can be used to carry out operations for which no ready made equipment is available, and all can be made by a competent lathe user, from material which is available in the workshop, or easy to obtain. The object of the book is not to encourage the turner to produce makeshift substitutes for proper equipment, but to help him make the best use of available resources, and to solve in a practical manner the many problems which arise in general workshop practice.
