Drawing heavily on intimate diaries and memoirs dating back to Florence Booth's teenage years, this book chronicles an aspect of early Salvation Army history from the inside out. It tells of Florence's battle against fierce parental opposition to her joining the - at that time - disreputable Salvation Army and marrying the son of its founder. It describes the perils of pioneering the Salvation Army in Paris in the early 1880s, and tells how Florence was confronted as a 22-year-old with the evils of child prostitution and sex trafficking, finding herself caught up in a national campaign which brought her young husband to stand trial in England's most famous criminal court.
