In 1976, Layton was engaged to record local traditions and engage in research to help document the Aboriginal claims to the land. Much of the material was collected in the field from 1977 to 1979, and part is taken from evidence at the hearing for the land claim in April and May 1979. He looks at pre-contact traditions, conflict and change, and land rights. The volume is 10 3/4 deep. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
