This intriguing collection includes letters, poems, essays, and occasional pieces by a neglected Romantic landscape painter and disciple of Blake who lived on into the high Victorian age. Much of the writing here is off-the-cuff criticism of art and poetry and offers a fascinating link between Coleridge and Ruskin. Also notable are a sensitive translation of Virgil's Fourth Eclogue and a revealing account of Blake in old age.
