He lived in Belgrade where he worked as an editor for the publishers Nolit. Anne Pennington (1934-81) taught at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, where she was Professor of Comparative Slavonic Philology. Francis R Jones has twice been awarded the European Poetry Translation Prize for his translations of Ivan V Lalic.

About the Author

Born in 1955, Francis R. Jones lectures in linguistics at the University of Newcastle in England. Vasko Popa (1922-91) was born and brought up in the Banat district of Yugoslavia. He was elected to the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1972 and to the Parisian Academie Mallarme in 1977. He lived in Belgrade where he worked as an editor for the publishers Nolit. Anne Pennington (1934-1981) taught at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University, where she was Professor of Comparative Slavonic Philology.
