A selection of 91 designs, by 73 artists, spanning three centuries from the collection of the Theatre Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum. From Parigi in 1608 to Yolanda Sonnabend in 1987, the artists include Clarkson Stanfield, Pablo Picasso, Edward Gordon Criaig, Paul Nash, Eiorgio de Chirico, Erté, Barbara Hepworth and other famous and not-so-famous names but all brilliant exponents of design for the theatre. Fully illustrated with many plates in colour, of the designers tackling of certain scenic and costuming problems, and how the successfully resolved them. The drawings are arranged in a number of specific groups in order that ready comparisons may be made of the different solutions.
