Anne Forestier finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time when she blunders into a raid on a jewellers on the Champs-Elysees. Shot three times, beaten almost beyond recognition, she is lucky to survive, but her ordeal has only just begun. Lying helpless in her hospital bed, with her assailant still at large, Anne is in grave danger. Just one thing stands in her favour - a partner who will break all the rules to protect the woman he loves: Commandant Camille Verh÷ven. For Verh÷ven it's a case of history repeating. He cannot lose Anne as he lost his wife Irene. But his serious breach of protocol - leading a case in which he is intimately involved - leaves him out on a limb, unable to confide in even his most trusted lieutenants. And this time he is facing an adversary whose greatest strength appears to be Verh÷ven's own matchless powers of intuition.

About the Author:
Pierre Lemaitre was born in Paris in 1951. He worked for many years as a teacher of literature before becoming a novelist. He was awarded the Crime Writers' Association International Dagger, alongside Fred Vargas, for Alex, and as sole winner for Camille. In 2013 his novel Au revoir la-haut (The Great Swindle, in English translation) won the Prix Goncourt, France's leading literary award.
Review:
A really excellent suspense novelist. -- Stephen King. Delivering more than its fair share of twists and turns, Camille is also a beautifully naunced portrait of a most unlikely hero, and one who's absence - if this truly is the last we'll see of Commandant Verh÷ven - will be keenly felt. -- Declan Burke * Irish Times. * This original and poignant story is the final instalment in a trilogy that has been a dazzling success. -- Jessica Mann * Literary Review. * A satisfying finis to the trilogy. -- Barry Forshaw * Independent. * Superior crime fiction, worthy of the international attention it has received. -- Patrick Anderson * Washington Post. * Crime fiction of the highest class. -- Geoffrey Wansell * Daily Mail. * Lemaitre is worthy of all the fuss. -- Barry Forshaw * Independent. *
