About the Author

V.G. Kiernan is Professor Emeritus of Modern History at the University of Edinburgh. His numerous books include Marxism and Imperialism, The Lords of Human Kind, European Empires from Conquest to Collapse, State and Society in Europe 1550-1650, and Duelling in European History. Harvey J. Kaye is Professor of Social Change and Development at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He is the author of The British Marxist Historians and editor of The Face of the Crowd: The Collected Essays of George Rude.
