Report on excavations at this major palaolithic site which have shed much light on the climate, geology, and flint technology of Quaternary Britain. Thanks to the team's careful sequencing and artefact refits, we now have a clear picture of environmental conditions, and of the palaeolithic life-way in this part of Britain. As John Wymer says, 'we are now beginning to sense Palaeolithic people in a Palaeolithic landscape'. At Barnham, this means a picture of pleasant climate, fresh water complete with pond tortoises, ducks, frogs and fish, nearby woodland, and huge beasts such as elephants and rhinos. Never before has East Anglia sounded so exotic.
