PreS-Gr 2-Maisie's day begins with her baby brother prying her eye open and her mother pouring cereal on her head, and it goes from bad to worse as she sets off for school. Brief, deadpan text provides the framework for bright cartoons that let readers in on all of the humorous mishaps. There is enough of the gross to elicit plenty of giggles, including a passing pigeon that drops a gooey glob on the girl's arm. The last page shows Maisie, who thinks her new day is going much better than the previous one, failing to realize that she has caught the back of her skirt in her underwear. Don't look for any hidden depth here, or a text that parents will gladly read a dozen times in one sitting, but the light humor is on target for an audience for whom the word "underwear" is the ultimate joke.-Faith Brautigam, Gail Borden Public Library, Elgin, IL
