From Booklist

PreS-Gr. 2. From the face-front portrait of Ruggles the dog on the cover to the final painting of him stretched out before the hearth, this picture book offers an engaging view of the world from Ruggles' perspective. This intrepid, friendly dog explains how he manages to escape his fenced yard in each season as well as where he goes and what he finds on his rambles. Fine, best known as the author of Mrs. Doubtfire, writes with empathy and finesse, and Brown's diverting illustrations create a vivid sense of Ruggles' neighborhood as well as his many moods and activities. This engaging picture book, first published in Great Britain and available here only in paperback, is sure to appeal to dog lovers everywhere as well as young children who wish they had Ruggles' freedom to roam and explore.
