Reviews

Gr 6 Up-The activities, games, recipes, poems, and stories in this handsome volume focus primarily on German traditions and history. For parents and teachers to use with children during the holidays from December 1 through the Epiphany or Three Kings' Day on January 6, some of the activities (Christmas cards, tissue paper angels) will be familiar to an American audience. However, most require highly specialized materials (sheets of beeswax for candle-making, a "wolf's teeth tray" for baking, unspun "magic" wool) to execute. The poems, songs, and stories are fairly sophisticated and meant for at least an upper-elementary-grade audience. Though attractively photographed (with almost entirely Anglo children), this book is geared to a very specific audience. For comprehensive collections where there is a demand.-Madeline J.
