Synopsis
This horse book covers all aspects of the equestrian world including the history and domestication of the horse. A photographic guide to over 100 breeds of horse also portrays the essential nature and physical characteristics of each individual breed. Also included is a section on keeping and caring for a horse and tips on feeding, grooming and health problems are discussed. The relationship between horse and man is examined as is the popularity of equestrian sports such as eventing, showjumping and racing.

About the Author
Elwyn Hartley Edwards was editor of the magazine 'Riding' for 18 years and then spent five years as a consultant editor for 'Horse and Hound'. He remains a regular contributor to the equestrian press and is author of some 30 books.

The Ultimate Horse Book should be subtitled "the ultimate horse photography book." A brilliantly conceived and executed work, this book has captured in color photos what other horse books have previously illustrated in drawings or descriptive text. What an amazing difference the color photo of a horse's hoof makes in comparisn to the usual line drawing of the various parts of the hoof. In presenting the different breeds, double - page color shots are used and include insets of photos of the same horse to illustrate various parts of the confirmation. What an improvement and how long overdue! Although this book uses the same basic format and informational layout as The Complete Horse Book ( LJ 10/15/91), edited by Elwyn Edwards and Candida Geddes, its illustrations alone are worth the purchase. Recommended for all equine collections. This will be a classic.
