Grade 2-4?Two titles done in a simple question-and-answer format, enlivened by explanatory photographs and drawings. Communicate discusses sound, scent, touch, color, and movement with examples that include elephants, giraffes, peacocks, and honeybees. Why touches on hibernation, migration, camouflage, mimicry, parasites and symbiosis, imprinting, and other topics using butterflies, fireflies, opossums, and skunks as examples. The full-color photographs are nicely reproduced, although not all of the illustrations are strong demonstrations of the text. The pages also include cartoonlike drawings of related animals and plants; they add little to the effectiveness of the presentation. The format is appropriate for younger children, but the zoological concepts presented are more appropriate for older students. However, some of the explanations are simplistic and potentially confusing to poor readers. Browsers may enjoy the books for the pictures and broad scope of topics; researchers will not find these books useful.?Dorcas Hand, Annunciation Orthodox School, Houston
