Taken from Chapter 4: The Sun The Sun is a star. Energy is made in its center, which is the hottest part. The energy moves out from the center and into the solar system. The Sun is so far away that this energy, called solar energy, takes over eight minutes to travel to Earth! The energy reaches us as heat and light. Without it, there would be no life on our planet. Someday, the Sun will burn out, or die. Scientists believe, however, that its death is at least 5 billion years away.
