Janet Williams is an associate professor in the College of Nursing at The University of Iowa. She is the director of the Genetic Counseling focus in the Masters of Nursing program and she teaches Community Health Nursing in the undergraduate curriculum.
Dr. William's research is on psychosocial aspects of genetic conditions and genetic testing. She is a board certified genetic counselor and a board certified pediatric nurse practitioner. Dr. Williams also is the nurse genetic counselor for The University of Iowa Down Syndrome Clinic.
Dr. Williams is an active participant in numerous professional organizations. She was a founding member and is president-elect of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics. She has also presented numerous lectures and continuing education workshops on genetic topics and nursing. Dr. Williams serves on the manuscript review panel of several nursing journals and has published in the nursing, psychology, and genetic counseling literature.
