<div></div>Vardis Fisher was born in Idaho; wrote most of his 35+ books while in Idaho; and remained an Idahoan his entire career despite going to Chicago and New York to study and teach. A contemporary of Thomas Wolfe and others, Fisher's career has been marked by incredible success and controversy. One of the icons of Western United States literature in the 20th century, he and his work remain an important part of the West's culture and history.
