"Rowena Reed’s Combined Operations in the Civil War not only continues to be the most thorough and competent examination of its topic but one of the most provocative and penetrating studies of Civil War strategy and tactics in general and the generalship of George McClellan in particular."—John D. Milligan (John D. Milligan)
