Classics on Indo-European languages. Antoine Meillet (1866–1936) is one of the most important linguists of all time. A French linguist and Indo-Europeanist, he was the author of over two dozen books and reference works that are still widely consulted, including The Comparative Method in Historical Linguistics and General Characteristics of the Germanic Languages. Meillet was a student of Ferdinand de Saussure, intellectual father of structuralism, at the Sorbonne. He spent most of his career at the College of France, teaching a generation of students who would be influential in their own right.
