Grade 4-8 A knife made of water, a solar airplane and a hydroponic lettuce farm are only a few of the wonders described in this attractive, readable book. Beginning with computers and lasers and focusing on most recent advances, Science: It's Changing Your World contains an amazing and varied list of achievements in the fields of agriculture, energy, transportation, medicine, industry and space. Some of the developments mentioned are still in the experimental stage, but a surprising number of them have reached a practical level. The text is well written, carefully researched and lavishly illustrated with handsome full-color photographs. Many of the photographs include children, who are depicted in various roles related to the technology described. A few cartoon-like drawings do not quite match the standard of the other illustrations, but they do add some information. A brief guide for students interested in scientific careers is provided. A separate teacher's package contains a summary of the text, suggestions for classroom activities which emphasize different skills, eight spirit masters and a poster. A fine overview that will have wide appeal. Sue A. Norkeliunas, Arlington Senior High School, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
