History of the San Luis Southern Railway, a 31 mile shortline between Jaroso and Blanca, Colorado. Built by engineer Louis Blauvelt of "Moffat Route" fame in 1909, the little railroad was intended to serve the farms and industries of the valley. Lack of rainfall crippled agriculture in the area and the railroad struggled for most of its life. This book explores the construction, operation and obstacles it faced. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos. With schematic drawings of equipment and structures, bibliography, and index. 190 pages.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. 190 pages b/w photos line drawings - Built in 1909, the 31 mile railroad underwent several name changes, becoming the San Luis Valley Southern, finally the Southern San Luis Valley. Despite the corporate changes the line was familiarly known as "The Taos Route", its southern destination. No need for extensive equipment rosters; the line had just four locomotives and twenty cars. Nevertheless, 190 pages are full of black and white photographs, both old and more recent. The appendix is comprised of plan and elevation drawings of stations, water tanks, a pile driver, a cattle guard, in short a model railroader's dream. Seller Inventory # UB-015215
