Originally published in 1952, this volume includes materials assembled from 1932 to 1942 along the northwest coast. The wolf ritual was isolated and studied as the major mask ritual of the lower coast country, judged by the author to be the most deeply expressive of the region. Methodology included direct observation and word-of-mouth transcription.
