Synopsis
In Indiana to 1816: The Colonial Period (vol. 1, History of Indiana Series), authors John D. Barnhart and Dorothy Riker present Indiana's past from its prehistory through the advance to statehood. Topics covered include the French and British presence, the American Revolution, and the territorial days.
Reprinted in 1999 and 2016, the book includes a bibliography, notes, and index. This is volume one of the History of Indiana series, published originally in observance of the sesquicentennial of Indiana s statehood by the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Historical Bureau with the aid of a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc.

About the Author
A professor of history at Indiana University, John D. Barnhart (1895-1967) served as editor of the Indiana Magazine of History from 1941 to 1955. Dorothy L. Riker ( 1904-1994) earned a master's degree in history in 1928 and worked as a documentory editor for both the Indiana Historical Bureau and the IHS from 1929 until 1979.
