About the Author

A professor of history at Indiana University, John D. Barnhart (1895-1967) served as editor of the Indiana Magazine of History from 1941 to 1955. Dorothy L. Riker ( 1904-1994) earned a master's degree in history in 1928 and worked as a documentory editor for both the Indiana Historical Bureau and the IHS from 1929 until 1979.
