Explore the fascinating world of the Pharaoh in this handsomely illustrated book.
Discover how the Pharaoh towered above everyone else in Egypt. Responsible for running the country, he was believed by his subjects to be god-on-earth, controlling every single aspect of their lives from the growth of crops to the sacred rites for the dead.
Through lively, informative text and detailed reconstructions, the Pharaoh’s unique role in history is magnificently brought to life.

Grade 4-6-Millard explores the world of Egyptian kings and introduces the many people who served them, including priests, viziers, and members of the royal family. Since it was the pharaoh's duty to provide for the people, collect taxes, build temples and tombs, and fight wars, this book also provides a good overview of how ancient Egypt was ruled. However, the text, while full of information, lacks sparkle and Galante's full-color drawings are sometimes static. Despite these flaws, students will find the book useful for assignments on the rights and responsibilities of these rulers.
