Reviews

Nobel Prize-winner Simon is not easy to read: his works of fiction, innovative and experimental in nature, require attentive reading. Sarkonak's study constitutes a very detailed explication of each of ten of Simon's major works of fiction. The works are presented chronologically (one per chapter) from Le Vent (1957) to Les Georgiques (1981). The result is a very good reference tool for undergraduates, or graduates in comparative literature, needing to familiarize themselves with Simon's work. The introduction is succinct, and the conclusion situates Simon in the context of 20th-century literature. The selective bibliography, conveniently arranged for quick reference, provides ample information for further study. For a review of the English translation of Les Georgiques , see p. 109.
