Reviews

The legal system in this country is inaccessible to many, ridiculously expensive, and painfully slow. So say the contributors to this stinging 40-count indictment of lawyers and the law as practiced today. Their list of concerns includes the jury system, overregulation of small business, inadequate legal services to the poor, biased courts, and undisciplined lawyers. Brief essays on each topic offer anecdotes, statistics to illustrate the problem, and proposals for reform. The format tends to make for superficial treatment of some very serious issues, but the book is successful in thinking creatively and humanely about what some of the solutions might be. Recommended for subject collections or where interest is high.
